Regarding the upgrade issue please go to CP » cardPresso License and click Check for Upgrades.
After that close cardPresso and open it again.
Confirm that the upgrade was done in CP » About cardPresso.
Check the installed state of the ribbon into the ribbon cartridge
If the ribbon is broken, tape it back together and reinstall it
Clean the Color In/Out sensor with a cleaning swab as seen below
Update the printer driver and firmware to the latest on the IDP website
