Error 83 is a generic card jam message
We had an HDP5000 in for repair today that displayed this error. After inspecting the printer I found that the brown pinch roller inside the printer had popped out and was deep inside the printer. Once the pinch roller was reinstalled the printer worked perfectly.
Resolutions:
* Manually clean the rollers
* Try different card stock
* Check to see if the brown pinch roller has popped out (Remove the film cartridge to access the area)
