There are two ways a ribbon can break. It can either be a straight cut or a jagged tear.
If the ribbon break is a straight cut:
1. Run a self test from the printer to eliminate the PC/software from the equation
2. Thoroughly Clean the rollers with a 99% Isopropyl cleaning card
3. Ensure that you are using the correct power supply (Switch Box brand)
4. Try a different ribbon and cards
5. Run a self adjustment
6. Make offset adjustments by using commands
7. Verify that the correct ribbon is set
If the ribbon break is a jagged tear:
- Run a self test from the printer to eliminate the PC/software from the equation
- Thoroughly Clean the rollers with a 99% Isopropyl cleaning card
- Ensure that you are using the correct power supply (Switch Box brand)
- Try a different ribbon and cards
- Verify that your print head kit # is set correctly
- Run a self adjustment
- Verify that the correct ribbon is set
